Emmanuelle Alt

In Editor, Inspiration, Style on October 27, 2010 at 9:29 PM

Emmanuelle’s long, lean model -esq frame let the clothes speak for themselves. always in an assortment of basics and cult pieces, Alt often showcases her own style by comparing it to her best accessory (not shown) her daugher- always a flattering counterpart to her style.

Louis Vuitton

Marc Jacobs presented an ornate, brightly colored and heavily detailed s/s 11 collection. there was fuschia, zebra print, oriental themes, a whole lot of shine and side swept bangs over red lips.

Jacobs told style.com, ”Basically, I didn’t want anything natural,” he said. “I wanted everything overly stylized.” mission accomplished.

Alexander McQueen

Sarah Burton truly kept her word and gave us a softer side to the design aesthetic of Alexander McQueen. since the two worked together for so long it is only fitting that she would be able to present such an on-point collection after the designers untimely death.

the butterfly dress and the crop top and pant look in black lead up to the monarch butterfly dress almost indicating that, once in the shadows, it is her turn to open her own wings.  with a swarm of orange cascading up the back it’s her turn to prove herself.

the collection speaks for itself. I believe that there will be much more beauty to come in the future, and the designer who leaves behind such a great legacy will continue to have his vision evident in the house’s designs.

Lagerfeld presented a solid collection for S/S 11 amidst a garden of stone and fountains, in reference to the 60′s avante gard film “The Last Year at Marienbad”.

the collection began with classic Chanel tweed looks, but took on a feel of deconstruction implemented by fraying and undone edges throughout the entire collection. tweed suits took on an edgier feel with shorts, and long sweeping necklaces. overall a strong collection that probably appeared stronger with such a heavy well-thought out presentation.

Emanuel Ungaro

In Paris Fashion Week on October 5, 2010 at 9:55 PM

Giles Deacon presented his first collection for Emanuel Ungaro.  according to the amazing Tim Blanks of style.com,

“the harried fashion flock might have missed the point of the centerpiece, which was a marvelous manifesto for the label’s new regime. It featured a pileup of VW’s buried under Ungaro’s signature daisies, and twisted minds construed it as a sly comment on Lindsay “Herbie Fully Loaded” Lohan’s tenure at the house, which has most commonly been written off as a car crash. Out with the new-old, in with the old-new: That was the signal being sent.”

while the collection had its ups (black laced everything and no “creative direction” from lindsey lohan) and downs (70′s inspired plastic sunglasses) the most surprising and exciting part, and one I can’t even get past, was that of Anna Dello Russo strutting down the runway in look number 19.

i.love.her. i believe that this dress was designed specifically with Anna and her legs in mind. check out the other 32 looks here.

Givenchy

Ricardo Tisci presented a rather new take on a goth-inspired collection, paying homage to leopard in the most classic of ways. leopard, often tacky, was nothing if not elegant throughout the pieces Tisci incorporated it into; from jackets and vests with big patterns, to dark leopard print tops hidden under sheer black to a tuxedo inspired, floor sleeping dress with a white on white leopard pattern.

:: everything flowed in long sheer layers and was tucked and zippered in multiple directions.

Haider Ackermann

In Paris Fashion Week on October 3, 2010 at 2:03 PM

Haider Ackermann presented a collection that both stuck to his underground roots as a designer while playing up to the fact that his designs are reaching a much more glamourous audience. the royal blue that he used, probably my favorite color, was used in floor sweeping gowns with plunging necklines and a gorgeous tuxedo shaped pantsuit while leather, black, stripes and striking red accented the collection.

:: the plunging backs were probably the most striking aspect of the collection, as seen below.

Isabel Marant

In Paris Fashion Week on October 2, 2010 at 8:56 PM

Isabel Marant makes clothes that you kind of want to wear everyday, in layers, all at once. sweaters, shorts, boots, every piece screams ‘must have’. i have a tendency to buy clothes and shoes that i think will look good in my closet, even if it’s something that I would never wear, but Marant’s clothing would easily become a staple.

her s/s 11 collection referenced her recent virgin trip to California and  was “an ode to surfing and the early days of skateboarding”, according to style.com. while reminiscent of california and the feel she was going for, it also has a realistic look and it appeares she has once again hit the mark on what her clients from Paris to New York want to wear.
