Mary Karantzou :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 5:56 PM

when you think of prints it is hard not to think of Mary Karantzou who has practically stolen the word as her own. her looks for fall were those of extremities: large shoulders, belled out skirts with floral motifs, extra skirted material wound around the hips. hidden in the prints were everyday objects including grass, No. 2 pencils and a typewriter. the colors were bold yet complimentary and the collection as whole screamed editorial.

McQ :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 5:40 PM

for the first runway presentation for the McQ collection, an accessible limb of the Alexander McQueen empire, designer Sarah Burton brought luxe beauty and a great attention to detail to the contemporary line. beautiful silhouettes kinked in with thick belts around the waist and embroidery across beautiful amped up voluminous skirts. menswear was military inspired, in tones of green and khaki with shoulder pads and leather gloves to complete the officer, not just soldier, look.

Giles :: Fall/Winter 2012

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 5:21 PM

Giles Deacon’s Fall/Winter 12 collection was sleek and powerful. looks that appeared both dark and heavy started the show, along with another season of breath taking headpieces by Stephen Jones, leading into those that looked torched, literally, the prints looking to have just been touched by fire. from hard to soft, the collection got lighter and more affected by the fire Deacon imagined this season to emerge from, ending with looks that were- if nothing else- a beautiful mess.

Topshop Unique :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 5:06 PM

The fall collection for topshop looks promising, and honestly olive has never looked so good. with a strong focus on outerwear, the design team over at Topshop put a large amount of thought into pieces their customer would want, and could use, come fall. all of their bases were covered, long and short jackets, short shorts and wide pants, boxy dresses and  flowing belted ones, wide blouses, chunky sweaters and fitted bustiers.

Vivienne Westood Red Label :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Vivienne Westwood dances to her own drummer, as do her designs. her models seem to take on a new life in her Red Label collection for fall, walking with a little more swag and carrying themselves with a little more ease. her viewpoint for fall revolves around layering, mixing patterns and a few key colors. stripes worn with plaid, maroon worn with blue.

particular looks that grabbed the eye were of a leather top worn over a striped button-up shirt with long plaid shorts worn with black over the knee socks and wide boots, while another look revolved around a bright scarf pulled tightly around the neck and knotted to perfection over a white T, worn under a khaki blazer and paired with plaid wide-leg trousers tucked into boots.

Marios Schwab :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 4:47 PM

Marios Schwab brought a taste of the past back for Fall, with classic dresses incorporating lace, eye grazing hats and lady like gloves. he played with color throughout the collection, most notably in his pop of color popping from dress hems. the thick t-strap shoes gave the collection enough of an edge to make it more now than the past, as did the sheer factor of many of the dresses that ended the show.

Peter Pilotto :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 4:42 PM

Peter Pilotto’s Fall/Winter 12 collection was beyond techni-color, focusing on prints and un-proportional looks. tight pants were paired with puffy nylon jackets, and body con dresses with a bit of a flair were shown with both attached and unattached sleeves and multi-colored fur. the shoes stood out on their own, pointy and with chunky double wrapped ankle straps in the blue and purple collection colors.

Burberry Prorsum :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 4:27 PM

Christopher Bailey’s Fall/Winter collection for Burberry Prorsum was aptly titled “Town and Field”; the mixture of the luxe and the basic created pieces that are at once wearable and covetable. Knee-length skirts with ruffle were paired with cotton graphic t-shirts and cropped jackets, both nylon and with those with more substance. contrasting belts in yellow, pink, brown and red accompanied almost every look, literally typing together the look itself and pulling together the collection.

the best part of Christopher Baileys outlook for the fashion house is that he understands the brand, the audience and the consumer and is able to present looks that continuously tell a story from one season to the next while at the same time presenting a fresh collection.

Aquascutum :: Fall/Winter 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on February 23, 2012 at 4:15 PM

the mood for Fall at Aquascutum was bleak, as you would imagine a show in London to be. Joanna Sykes collection for the fashion house focused on clean lines, colors and overall design. the deep blood red we have been seeing throughout fashion month (often referred to as oxblood) was present in a beautiful calf-length leather coat with contrasting patent leather stripes. the neck also seemed to be a focal point, often shown with a white collar below jackets, including an olive grey military inspired jacket, a long A-line striped gray coat and a black cropped leather moto jacket.
