Julien Macdonald :: S/S 12

In Designer, Fashion, London Fashion Week on September 29, 2011 at 5:57 PM

Julien Macdonalds collection for Spring/Summer 12 screamed, and I mean screamed, Taylor Tomasi Hill. and i loved every second of it.

the collection was edgy and styled to a t. slicked back hair, hard red lips, ankle strapped, bondage-inspired stilettos and opaque sunglasses. the collection itself consisted of pieces that could easily be worn day or night, until the end when the most jaw dropping gowns in sheer fabrics and applique designs (quite obviously, Ricardo Tisci inspired from the Givenchy Couture F/W 10 collection). overall a solid collection, and one of the only collections i wouldn’t dare try to break apart from the styled looks.

Acne :: S/S 12

Jonny Johansson’s S/S 12 collection incorporated staple pieces that will be a must for every style stalked victim come spring. the designer had a very focused mindset on amazing color combinations of vibrant blue and mustard yellow paired with the usual finds on white, black and denim blue. the collection showcased full garments (such as the oversized jacket and bouncy a-line knee grazing skirts) and light, easy fabrics.

Burberry Prorsum :: S/S 12

Christopher Bailey sends more looks each season that I would kill to wear. his designs are luxe yet accessible (wearability wise). his use of stripes for the Burberry Prorsum S/S 12 stole the show. a fitted stripe pencil skirt paired with a cropped army jacket in a muted olive and his striped rendition of the design houses classic trench were both seemingly simple yet could make or break a wardrobe come spring.

Giles :: S/S 12

Giles Deacon, inspired by an artist in his hometown (read more about his inspiration here), presented a collection of “silver swans”. Deacon was subtle in every reference, aside from the giant swan head pieces worn by some of his top models. amid a cloud-like silver back drop, Deacon presented looks in silver, black, grey and a burning fire red. silver metallic laser cut skirts and slashed dresses were among feathered looks and swan prints on silk.

Christopher Kane:: S/S 12

Christopher Kane’s Spring/Summer 12 collection was strangely devoid of a must have statement piece (see Gorilla print S/S 09 and Galaxy print S/S 10). the collection consisted of beautifully tailored dresses with interesting chest pieces and cuts, a white on nude play on flowers and a blue floral print found on dresses and separates.

designer Joanna Sykes focused on minimal colors for Spring/Summer 12. amid classic trousers and overcoats the designer threw in the sporty on-trend look for Spring in her use of a mesh top and slouchy bottoms. a menswear take on womenswear, the shorts were long, chests were covered and hair was slicked back.

Topshop Unique :: S/S 12

In Fashion, London Fashion Week on September 28, 2011 at 9:58 AM

the UK mass retailer looked to Cleopatra as reference for their  Topshop Unique S/S 12 collection. gold, gold and more gold, oh and huge Cleopatra (i.e,  Liz Taylor as Cleopatra) images were strewn across pieces a plenty. Hieroglyphic-like prints in black and white and a smattering of denim rounded out the collection that was, for the most part, only good if you looked at a few pieces individually. as a collection, its was all a bit dizzying.

Matthew Williamson

Matthew Williamson’s Spring Summer 11 collection was surprisingly dark. “My storyboard is a girl marooned on a deserted island,” he told Meenal Mistry of style.com, “She has her Western wardrobe, and over time she becomes one with nature, picking up organic textures and materials.”

dresses in chiffon, corset tops in animal print paired with wide shorts and high-waisted skirts made for a much more chic, smart Williamson woman. the embellishment of fringe and knotting kept the collection fresh, and pops of rusty orange, yellow and lilac kept the collection feeling appropriate for spring.

Sass & Bide

In London Fashion Week on September 20, 2010 at 9:21 AM

Sass & Bide’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection was all about the details : the patterns, the fabrics, the accessories (including headpieces and luxurious belts). the hair was styled into a faux-hawk giving the collection a feeling of warrior princess. feminine with an edge, and a lot more metallics.

Unique

In London Fashion Week on September 20, 2010 at 9:11 AM

Topshop Unique’s S/S 11 collection paved the way for London Fashion Week. LOVE Magazine’s Katie Grand styled the show, and the looks were presented by a halo of large 70′s-esq crimped hair and hazy flower prints with contrasting white lines.

the colors were clean, seen on skinny pants, rompers and t’s, admist a sprinkling of metallics (watch out for metallics).
