Sarah Burton stuck to white, pink, red, black and silver for her fall/winter collection for Alexander McQueen. the looks were nothing if not voluminous. and light.

each look was accessorized by a think element around the neck, either that of fur or a Elizabethean-like column of organza, as well as a metallic wraparound eye piece (i am not sure if they can be called sunglasses?) and metallic belts in various sizes- often outfitted with a bold accent piece in the center. tufts of mongolian fur wrapped around the ankles, and fur found its way around the calves in a pair of heel-less boots that will be a key edition to editorials this summer.

last year Marc Jacobs amazed with a childlike runway show featuring a merry go round and a doll-like Kate Moss. this year, Jacobs had to out show himself- and since Karl Lagerfeld had already beat him to inserting a glacier into his runway for the Chanel Fall/Winter 2012 show- Jacobs had to bring in the next best thing : a (reported) $ 80 mil. steam engine.

models de-boarded alongside their personal porters, clad in oversized jackets, wide legged cropped trousers and tall, droopy wide hats designed by Milliner Stephen Jones. the looks referenced the time period when travel by train was the norm, but truthfully it took me immediatley to Harry Potter.  the bags carried by the models and their porters were oversized and amazing, an amazing reference to the look Jacobs was going for.

Rick Owens collection was layered and dark, both figuratively and physically. the models made their way down a runway dotted by fire. the looks were reminiscent of columns, long and tall with the models faces masked by sheath-like head pieces.

Owens brought in a lighter element with his cropped, camel leather coats with muted fur lining and the black and white plaid print element shown on pullover jackets.

amid a runway filled with protruding natural rocks models made their way down the runway underneath,(literally, the biggest crystal focus) the models eyebrows. designed by embroidery couturier house Lesage, the thick eyebrow definition stood out even among the towering rocks.

the mood for fall focueds on the dark colors found in nature, with blips of light looks throughout. three piece looks featuring a jacket, skirt and pants was presented numerous times, many in Chanels well known tweed with crystal elements incorporated on sleeve cuffs, hems and on the heels of the cut-out shoes.

Hussein Chalayan presented a bold, abstract collection for fall/winter 12. while many designers automatically go to dark colors and fall layers, Chalayan kept his collection vibrant and simple. silhouettes were boxy with hard lines and contrasting colors found on geometric shapes, seen most graphically on his skinny pants with silver insets. the designer often paired hi tunics and dresses over skinny trousers, a look which we will probably see more of come fall.

Miuccia Prada focused on pant suits, bold lines and bolder colors for fall/winter 12. her models hair was slicked back and flat and their make-up was a beautiful version of clown make-up, with a large focus on the eyes.

oversized menswear jackets, high-waisted belted pants and buttoned up blouses were shown with mens ties in contrasting colors or scarves/ascots tied tightly around the neck. the shoes were chunky loafers in varying heel heights…it will be interesting to see if the footwear hits big come fall, but the pantsuits are sure to be everywhere.

Gareth Pugh may always have an inspiration in mind for his collections but truthfully his work is always comprised of pieces of art that can be interpreted by the viewer. for fall/winter 12 he blew this viewer away. the volume, construction, accessories and fabric choices all work to create another world.

Phoebe Philo’s Fall/Winter collection consisted of an array of oversized over coats, in bright sky blue’s, deep navys with contrasting  brown leather and an eye catching camel coat with black leather lapels and color blocking at the breast. cropped pants, tops with high neck lines and oversized clutches were staple pieces throughout. her sleeker pieces were fewer and far in between, but strong. one look in particular consisted of an ox-blood, high-necked leather pullover with a thick, double banded waist shown with wide pink trousers and pointy white pumps.

Ricardo Tisci gives good fashion.  not only do his collections for Givenchy amaze the elitest of the fashion world, but also celebrities, musicians and mere mortals alike.

his collection for fall went to a dark place, as did many this season. the collection first started with glistening leather looks covering models from head to toe, with a peak-a-boo of skin at or above the knee. with an equestrian feel, the jackets were cut close to the body and often flared out at the hip, or bustled at the back. the boots were a staple piece, a mix of leather and pony hair on stacked wedges, giving the effect of a horses leg.  the collection ended with looks incorporating pops of red, found on the asymetrical side panels of a jacket, a wide cut leather pant and on an embellished tank.

the mood for fall at Isabel Marant was that of a stylistically poised Western/Parisian lady. lace, pleats, embellished denim and a soft mix of leather accents gave the Americana vibe with an edge that the Marant fans world-wide are sure to accept fully.
